I decided to see what the blue light was on the Wii, after I turned it off the other day, and found that the Nintendo Channel was updated. I started to browse the channel and I liked it. I watched the first Nintendo Weekly segment, Bowser’s Inside Story game play and the Scribblenauts developer video. Honestly, I must say that I really enjoyed the channel and may make another visit soon.

On to my game time. Tracking game play time is something I wish Microsoft and Sony would do. For some games on the PS3, developers track the time and append it to your saved game. I know I completed Uncharted Drakes Fortune in 8hr xx min. What would be nicer is to have a total accumulated system like the Wii.

My most played title is Wii Sports with 173hrs 3min dedicated to it. The time for Wii Sports is based on 109 play times. It is followed by the Wii Shop Channel which has 26hrs 16min logged. This I know is accurate because I did leave the store up while I went off and did home work one night. Third is Wii Play which tracked 19hrs 15min over 14 play times. Missing from my overall list of games is Trauma Center Second Opinion. I know I have played and completed that game before ever touching New Blood. What’s the deal?

Looking over my list you will see that there are some really good games, not a lot, that I have gave little attention to. Check out the full list after the jump.

Where does the Wii reside? It comes in 3rd place with 13.4 while the PS3 hits the fifth spot with 7.3 usage minutes.

I had a great discussion with a co-worker the other day concerning the Nintendo Wii. It started with my comment “meh, what online service? It is barely even there”. Those were indeed fighting words. Apparently, because online play was not the primary objective for Nintendo when releasing the Wii, no one should bitch and should purchase something else. Online play may not be the primary objective for Nintendo, but it is a feature they stated they will support and make available. They just went about it in the most painful way they could. One reason given to me was security. From what I asked. “People you don’t want to talk to, talking to you”. Last I checked, you have to accept the friend request before someone could talk with you. “well, the remote was their feature so buy something else if you want online” was the response.

People have been over this a million times but it was just interesting to hear others opinion about the Wii’s (lack of) online service being that they never used Sony or Microsoft’s service. A friend recently purchased a Wii and as I was helping him get setup with some games, etc., he asked how to add me to his friends list. I navigated him to his address book and he attempted to add me:

Me: “Whoa there buddy, I don’t have my 16 digit friend-code”
Him: “I need that to add you?”
Me: “Yep, whats your code so I can add you? I will email you my code tomorrow”
Him: “huh? Why do I need your code? Why can’t you just add me and I accept?”

I wonder that too. I’ve run across other casuals who seem to dislike the way the service works as well and that is without using the competitions. This goes without mentioning the arduous (yes, I just used that word) task of adding or playing with friends online. It’s just mind blowing how Nintendo thinks its fine. Another thing that they think is fine is the available “HDD” space. I will save that rant for another time…
