DICE Staying True With Dedicated Servers

I am sure you are aware about the dedicated server fiasco with Infinity Ward, no? The community manager, Robert Bowling, for Infinity Ward broke news of no dedicated server support for Modern Warfare 2. There was then a follow up post on his blog explaining why matchmaking will be great on the PC. Let’s just say, it didn’t go over too well with the PC crowd.

Enters DICE

DICE wants to remind their community that they see the benefits of dedicated servers and know that it is an integral part of the PC community. DICE is showing that they made a promise and are doing good to support their community by giving them what they want.

My Thoughts

From a business perspective I understand, partially, where IW is coming from BUT you can provide both solutions. Of course plenty around the internet has already stated as much, so I am not really adding anything new. If anything, more users should be upset and more console gamers should be as well. I have not been a PC gamer for many, many years but I understand the importance for dedicated servers. I even go crazy for console games that support them as well.

Dedicated servers provide a better experience and creates a community. Unfortunately, most are completely contempt with paying to access a feature of a game everyone gets for free and enjoy their P2P matchmaking. This topic will be of little interest to them.
