Develop has run down what they think the top 10 game engines are with their analysis as to why. Taking the number one spot is Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 for it’s dominant position within the middle-ware market and it multifaceted use as a 1st/3rd person, RPG, and open world engine for games. The constant improvements to the engine and its expansion into MMO development seems to make it a force to be reckoned with.
