Activision is getting very bullish about what they want. If you do not know, Activision and others have been calling for console price cuts all around. Sony of course will be looked at everyone since their console is the most expensive. It seems this time Activision is stepping it up by stating it will stop supporting the platform in 2010 or 2011. Is this an example of them attempting to throw their weight around to influence a price cut?
Whatever they are doing, I am not falling for it. For many the PS3 sales are doing good relative to its user base meaning selling 300k units to a 6 million user base is the same as selling 600 units to a 12 million user base. Think about it. PS3 software sales have increased and Sony has already given a 30% hardware increase in PS3 for fiscal 2010. Does Activision honestly think the PS3 will increase its sales by 30% with NO price cut? Will Activision really cut its 50 million (combined PS3, and 360) user base down to <30 million?
No, I don’t think so. Activision will be leaving too much money on the table. I will await their next attempt to induce a price cut. It should be pretty funny.
